COMMISSIONED ART

A commission is one of the most personal and meaningful things I get to do as an artist. It is not just a painting. It is a collaboration, a conversation, and ultimately a piece of art made with intention, created just for you.

I love working with homeowners, art consultants, interior designers and architects to bring a vision to life. Whether you arrive with a crystal clear idea or simply a feeling you cannot quite put into words yet, we will figure it out together.

WHERE DO WE BEGIN?

You do not need to come to me with a photograph or a precise brief. Many of my clients simply look through my portfolio, find the pieces that speak to them, and tell me what they love and why. From there we build something entirely new. Maybe you love the energy of one painting but want a different color palette. Maybe you want elements from two different pieces brought together into something that has never existed before. That is exactly the kind of creative problem I live for.

THE PROCESS

STAGE 1: MEET AND GREET

Every commission begins with a conversation. Whether we meet virtually or in person over a cup of coffee, I always like to connect before a single brushstroke is planned. This is where we get to know each other and figure out if we are the right fit. We will talk about your vision, where the piece will live in your home or space (because that matters more than people realize), and begin exploring color, mood and size. If you have no idea what size works for your wall or what palette suits your space, do not worry at all. Helping you navigate those decisions is part of what I do and honestly one of my favorite parts of the process.

STAGE 2: contract and deposit

Once we are aligned on the vision, we will both sign a Commission Agreement that outlines all the details including the painting description, ownership rights and delivery timeline. At this stage a 50% deposit is required to get things underway, with the remaining 50% due before delivery. And then the real fun begins.

STAGE 3: THE STUDIO SKETCH

Before I ever put brush to canvas, I create a small studio sketch, usually in my sketchbook, so you can see the bones of the piece and weigh in before we commit to the full scale version. This is the stage to tweak, refine and get it exactly right. Some clients want a few rounds of changes. Others are happy right away. Either way is completely fine. This stage exists entirely for you.

STAGE 4: PAINTING

This is where I disappear into the studio and lose myself in the work. I use the studio sketch as my guide and let the painting evolve from there. I find this stage deeply meditative and genuinely joyful. Watching a piece move from a blank canvas to something full of life and meaning never gets old for me. As the painting nears completion I will share detail shots from various angles and, if needed, make any minor refinements before sending final photos for your approval.

STAGE 5: COMPLETION & Delivery

Once the painting is finished and approved, we will arrange delivery. Depending on where you are located, the piece will either be shipped with care or delivered in person. The final payment is due at this stage before the painting changes hands.

STAGE 6: staying in touch

For me, the commission does not end at delivery. Some of my most treasured relationships have grown out of the commission process. I love checking in over time, seeing how a painting is settling into its new home, and staying connected with the people I have had the privilege of creating for. More often than not, we end up grabbing that drink we talked about.

A NOTE ON MY WORK

As a creative, no two pieces I make are ever exact reproductions of one another. Each painting carries its own energy and its own story. I also create smaller paintings that I share regularly on Instagram, and many clients find their inspiration there before reaching out for a larger commissioned piece for their home.

If any of this resonates with you and you would like to explore a commission, please reach out directly by email and we can start the conversation. I would love to create something meaningful together.
